Fly Delta One to Europe From Just 106K SkyMiles, Even Over Christmas & New Year’s

Cheap flights to Northern Europe

Finding a reasonable Delta One award to Europe can sometimes feel impossible. Delta regularly charges 300,000 SkyMiles or more each way for its international Business Class, making many redemptions difficult to justify.

Right now, however, we’re seeing something much more interesting.

Delta has released widespread Delta One award availability to Europe from 125,000 SkyMiles each way, with Delta SkyMiles American Express cardholders able to bring that price down to approximately 106,000 SkyMiles each way thanks to the TakeOff 15 benefit.

And this isn’t limited to one route or a handful of obscure travel dates.

The current sale includes flights from cities across the United States to Amsterdam, Athens, London, Munich, Venice, and Zurich, with some nonstop options and availability extending from October through April.

Even more noteworthy? There is availability around Christmas and New Year’s Eve, traditionally some of the hardest and most expensive dates for premium cabin travel to Europe.

Why This Delta One Deal Is Worth Paying Attention To

The headline price is certainly attractive compared with Delta’s normal award pricing, but availability is what makes this deal particularly interesting.

Delta One awards at reasonable rates can be difficult to find, especially when you need specific dates or you’re traveling during popular periods.

This deal opens considerably more possibilities.

The strongest availability currently appears from November through February, while some routes have availability from October through April. That includes opportunities around Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

Instead of paying more than 300,000 SkyMiles each way, eligible travelers could book the same premium cabin experience from approximately 106,000 SkyMiles.

That’s nearly two-thirds fewer SkyMiles than some of the prices we regularly see.

Where Can You Fly?

Current availability includes six European destinations:

Amsterdam (AMS)
Athens (ATH)
London Heathrow (LHR)
Munich (MUC)
Venice (VCE)
Zurich (ZRH)

Availability varies significantly between destinations and departure cities, but there are nonstop Delta-operated options from several major U.S. gateways.

Amsterdam and London have particularly interesting nonstop opportunities, while award availability to Athens is much harder to find and makes this sale especially noteworthy.

There is also limited Delta-operated availability to Berlin, Copenhagen, and Stockholm in late March and April.

This Deal Is Available From Cities Across the U.S.

Another major advantage is that this isn’t a deal restricted to travelers living near one specific Delta hub.

The 125K SkyMiles pricing is showing from a huge number of airports throughout the United States, including major cities and smaller regional airports.

Nonstop options are available from select Delta gateways including:

Atlanta (ATL)
Boston (BOS)
Cincinnati (CVG)
Detroit (DTW)
Minneapolis (MSP)
New York (JFK)
Orlando (MCO)
Salt Lake City (SLC)
Seattle (SEA)
Tampa (TPA)

Travelers originating elsewhere may be able to connect through one of Delta’s hubs while maintaining the same 125K SkyMiles starting price.

That makes this significantly more accessible than an award deal requiring a separate positioning flight to one particular airport.

What Is Delta One?

Delta One is Delta’s premium Business Class product on long-haul international flights and select premium domestic routes.

Passengers receive lie-flat seats, priority boarding, checked baggage, complimentary seat selection, premium meals and drinks, and lounge access before departure.

On the right aircraft, the experience gets even better.

Delta’s Airbus A350 and A330-900neo feature Delta One Suites, which offer significantly more privacy than a traditional Business Class seat.

Each suite includes a sliding door, allowing passengers to create a more private space during the flight.

For an overnight journey to Europe, that combination of privacy and a fully lie-flat bed can make an enormous difference compared with crossing the Atlantic in economy.

Which Delta One Aircraft Should You Look For?

Not every Delta One seat is identical, so checking the aircraft before booking is worthwhile.

Airbus A350

The Airbus A350 offers one of Delta’s best Business Class experiences, with enclosed Delta One Suites featuring closing doors.

Airbus A330-900neo

The A330-900neo also features Delta One Suites and is another aircraft we’d be excited to see when booking this deal.

Boeing 767-400

The 767-400 doesn’t offer exactly the same enclosed suite experience, but its updated Delta One cabin still provides an excellent way to cross the Atlantic.

Airbus A330-300 and Boeing 767-300

These aircraft feature older Delta One products. You still get a lie-flat seat and the other Business Class benefits, but the hard product isn’t as modern as what you’ll find aboard the A350 or A330-900neo.

When multiple flights are available on the same date, check the aircraft type before booking. Choosing an A350 or A330-900neo could substantially improve your experience without requiring additional SkyMiles.

Delta One Lounge Access Makes the Deal Even Better

Eligible Delta One passengers receive access to Delta Sky Clubs, but departures from several major airports can include something even better: access to a Delta One Lounge.

Current qualifying departure airports include Boston, Los Angeles, New York JFK, and Seattle.

These lounges are designed specifically for Delta’s premium passengers and provide an elevated experience compared with a standard airport lounge.

Depending on the location, amenities can include restaurant-style à la carte dining, premium drinks, comfortable spaces to relax before departure, and dedicated services for Delta One travelers.

Select locations even offer private security access, making the premium experience start well before you step onto the aircraft.

How to Get the Price Down to 106K SkyMiles

The standard sale price starts at 125,000 Delta SkyMiles each way.

But travelers with an eligible Delta SkyMiles American Express credit card can receive a 15% discount on Delta-operated award tickets through the TakeOff 15 benefit.

Applying that discount to a 125K award brings the effective price down to approximately:

106,250 SkyMiles each way

That’s where the headline 106K SkyMiles price comes from.

Without an eligible Delta credit card, expect to pay the full 125,000 SkyMiles starting rate.

Considering some of these flights normally price at 300K SkyMiles or more each way, 125K can still represent a major reduction.

Can You Transfer Points to Delta SkyMiles?

Delta SkyMiles is a transfer partner of American Express Membership Rewards, providing another way to top up your account when you’re short on miles.

Transfers are generally fast, but that doesn’t mean you should transfer points before finding your flights.

Always search Delta first.

Once you’ve found the exact itinerary at the expected award rate, confirm the number of SkyMiles you need and only then initiate the transfer.

Transfers from flexible credit card programs to airline loyalty programs generally cannot be reversed.

One-Way vs. Roundtrip Bookings: Pay Attention to This Rule

There’s an important pricing detail with this deal.

When departing from the United States, you can book a one-way ticket for approximately half the cost of a roundtrip.

That means you don’t necessarily need 250,000 SkyMiles available to take advantage of the sale.

However, the situation changes dramatically when you’re departing Europe.

One-way Delta One awards originating in Europe can cost 300,000 SkyMiles or more.

For travelers who need a roundtrip itinerary, booking the entire roundtrip originating in the United States can therefore be significantly cheaper than booking two independent one-way awards.

For example, don’t automatically book:

U.S. → Europe as one reservation
and
Europe → U.S. as another reservation

Search the complete roundtrip first and compare the total price.

This simple step could save hundreds of thousands of SkyMiles.

Christmas and New Year’s Availability Is the Real Story

Low Delta One pricing is great.

Low Delta One pricing during the holidays is much more unusual.

The current award space includes rare availability around Christmas and New Year’s Eve, making this an interesting opportunity for travelers who have considered spending the holidays in Europe.

Imagine visiting London’s holiday displays, exploring Amsterdam during winter, skiing near Zurich or Munich, or spending Christmas surrounded by Europe’s famous Christmas markets.

Premium cabin award availability during these dates is typically difficult to find because demand is so high.

That’s why holiday travelers should move particularly quickly when they find dates that work.

How to Search for This Delta One Deal

Delta’s website makes it relatively easy to search, but using the right filters will save you a lot of time.

  1. Visit Delta’s website and enter your departure city and preferred European destination.
  2. Select Shop with Miles.
  3. Expand Advanced Search and select Delta One as your cabin.
  4. Enter your dates and number of travelers.
  5. Once the results load, select Price Calendar to see pricing across multiple dates.
  6. Look for dates pricing from 125,000 SkyMiles each way.
  7. Travelers departing from major gateways can filter for nonstop flights.
  8. Check the aircraft operating your preferred flight before booking.

Using a desktop computer is preferable because Delta’s broader calendar functionality is easier to use there than through the mobile app.

Taxes and Fees

One-way taxes and fees can be surprisingly low on these awards.

Some itineraries start around $6 one way, while roundtrip taxes and fees to most destinations can range from approximately $50 to $200.

London is the major exception.

Flights involving London Heathrow can carry considerably higher taxes and surcharges, with roundtrip fees potentially reaching approximately $420.

That doesn’t necessarily make London a bad redemption, but it’s something to factor into your decision when choosing between destinations.

For travelers with flexibility, comparing both the mileage price and cash fees across several European destinations could reveal a much better overall value.

Delta Award Tickets Offer Excellent Flexibility

There’s another reason this deal is relatively low risk.

Eligible Delta SkyMiles award tickets in this sale are fully refundable.

That means you can book an available flight now and cancel later when your plans change. Delta will redeposit the SkyMiles and eligible taxes and fees without a cancellation charge.

That flexibility is particularly useful with award deals.

Premium cabin availability can disappear quickly, and waiting several days while you finalize every detail of the trip could mean losing the seats entirely.

Booking a refundable award gives you more room to secure the flight first and finish planning the rest of your trip afterward.

Is 106K SkyMiles a Good Deal for Delta One to Europe?

Delta SkyMiles can be difficult to value because Delta uses dynamic award pricing rather than a traditional fixed award chart.

The same Delta One seat can sometimes cost 100K miles and other times cost 300K, 400K, or even more.

That makes the comparison particularly important.

With these flights normally costing more than $3,000 in cash or 300,000+ SkyMiles each way, paying approximately 106K SkyMiles with an eligible Delta Amex card represents a substantial reduction.

Could you find Business Class flights to Europe for fewer points through another airline program? Absolutely.

But that’s not necessarily the point.

For travelers already holding a large balance of SkyMiles, especially those who value flying Delta nonstop from their home airport, this represents a much more attractive use of SkyMiles than paying the usual astronomical Delta One award prices.

Which European Destination Would We Choose?

There isn’t a bad option here, but several stand out for different reasons.

Amsterdam is perfect for a shorter European getaway and also provides excellent transportation connections for exploring elsewhere in the Netherlands or neighboring countries.

London offers endless possibilities for a winter city trip, though you’ll want to account for the higher taxes and fees.

Zurich is particularly appealing for anyone planning a winter trip into Switzerland or the Alps.

Munich puts you within easy reach of Bavaria and some spectacular winter destinations.

Venice offers an entirely different experience outside the busy summer season.

And then there’s Athens, where premium cabin award availability can be much harder to find. The limited spring availability makes Greece one of the more interesting options in this sale.

Final Thoughts

This is one of the more interesting Delta One SkyMiles opportunities we’ve seen, especially for travelers hoping to visit Europe during the winter or holiday season.

The combination of 125K SkyMiles starting rates, approximately 106K pricing for eligible Delta Amex cardholders, nationwide departure options, multiple European destinations, and Christmas and New Year’s availability makes this worth searching.

And unlike many premium cabin award deals, you aren’t necessarily required to position to one specific U.S. airport to make it work.

Start by searching your home airport to Amsterdam, Athens, London, Munich, Venice, or Zurich. Use Delta’s Price Calendar to check surrounding dates, compare nonstop and connecting options, and pay attention to the aircraft operating each flight.

Most importantly, search before transferring any points.

Award space can disappear without warning, especially around the holidays.

With the right dates, you could trade the usual 300K+ SkyMiles pricing for a lie-flat Delta One seat to Europe from just 106K SkyMiles each way, and maybe even spend Christmas or New Year’s Eve on the other side of the Atlantic.
