  • Argos blends beautifully into Cappadocia’s landscape, making it feel like a part of the destination rather than just a hotel.
  • For couples or families, consider upgrading to larger rooms for a more comfortable stay while enjoying the hotel’s amenities.

Some hotels are memorable because of their location, others because of the food or the service. Every once in a while, though, you find a property where everything comes together to create an experience that feels completely different from anywhere you’ve stayed before. That’s exactly how we felt about Argos in Cappadocia, a luxury cave hotel tucked into the historic landscape of Uçhisar, Türkiye.

During our recent trip through Türkiye, Malta, and Switzerland, we spent three nights at Argos, sleeping inside a cave, enjoying some of the best hotel food we’ve ever had, exploring an underground wine cellar filled with thousands of bottles, and taking in views that honestly didn’t look real. Cappadocia had been on our travel list for a long time, primarily because of its famous hot air balloons, but the hotel ended up becoming one of the highlights of the entire trip.

What made the experience even better was how we booked it. Instead of paying the full cash rate, we used benefits from our American Express Platinum cards to save $900 across our three-night stay. Considering the hotel’s nightly rate was around $586, that made a pretty significant difference.

Of course, no hotel is perfect, and there are a couple of things we’d do differently if we returned. In this Argos in Cappadocia review, we’re sharing everything from our cave room and the incredible restaurants to the spa, wine cellar, location, and the booking strategy that helped us save hundreds of dollars.

First Impressions: A Hotel That Feels Like Part of Cappadocia

Before arriving in Cappadocia, we’d seen plenty of photos of the region’s famous fairy chimneys, cave dwellings, and hot air balloons floating over the valleys. But photos don’t fully prepare you for how unusual the landscape is in person. The entire region looks like something from another planet, with massive rock formations rising out of the ground and centuries-old structures carved directly into the stone.

Cappadocia isn’t one single town, which is something worth understanding when deciding where to stay. Göreme is probably the best-known area, particularly because of its proximity to the famous hot air balloon experiences, but we chose to stay in Uçhisar. This village sits at one of the highest points in the region and is known for its dramatic rock formations, historic castle, and panoramic views across the surrounding valleys.

Argos is built into that landscape rather than sitting separately from it. The property is spread across historic stone buildings, cave rooms, narrow pathways, courtyards, and terraces that seem to blend into the surrounding rock formations. Walking around almost feels like exploring a small historic village rather than moving through a conventional luxury hotel.

Being in Cappadocia is air-mazing

We spent a good amount of time exploring different parts of Cappadocia during our stay, and while there are certainly other beautiful hotels throughout the region, we came away feeling that Argos had one of the best locations we’d seen. The views are incredible from multiple areas of the property, especially around sunset when the surrounding valleys turn shades of gold and pink.

One of the things we appreciated most was that the hotel didn’t feel disconnected from the destination. So many luxury resorts could theoretically be picked up and placed somewhere else in the world without changing much about the experience. Argos is the opposite. Its architecture, history, and surroundings are such an important part of the stay that you really couldn’t recreate this property anywhere else.

The historic rock formations of Cappadocia look even more spectacular as the sun begins to set.

Our Cave Room at Argos in Cappadocia

One of the biggest reasons we were excited about staying at Argos was the opportunity to sleep in an actual cave hotel. We’ve stayed in some pretty unique accommodations over the years, but this was our first experience sleeping in a room built into Cappadocia’s historic stone landscape. It wasn’t necessarily something we’d always had on our bucket list, but after doing it, we’re glad we had the opportunity.

Our standard cave room featured beautiful stone architecture, a vaulted ceiling, traditional furnishings, and warm lighting that complemented the natural surroundings. The design felt authentic to the region while still providing the comforts you’d expect from a luxury hotel. Rather than trying to turn the room into a completely modern space, Argos embraces the historic character of the building, which is exactly what we wanted from this experience.

However, there’s one thing we’d definitely change about our room next time: we’d book something bigger. The standard cave room was beautiful, but it was also quite small, particularly when you consider how much luggage we were traveling with. Between our suitcases and everything we needed to unpack, we quickly realized that the room wasn’t particularly practical for spreading out and getting comfortable.

That doesn’t mean we regretted booking it. We were spending most of our days exploring Cappadocia and enjoying the property, so the smaller room wasn’t a major issue during our three-night stay. Still, we’ve learned that room size can make a difference, especially when you’re moving between multiple destinations with several suitcases..

Room Options

Argos has several different room categories, including larger accommodations and suites, and we’d strongly recommend comparing them before booking. For a short stay where you plan to spend most of your time outside the room, the standard category can work perfectly well. For a longer visit, a romantic getaway, or simply a more comfortable experience, we’d seriously consider spending a little extra for additional space.

There was also a thoughtful welcome amenity waiting for us in the room, including wine, flowers, and a selection of local treats. It was a nice introduction to the property and another small detail that made our arrival feel special.

Breakfast at Argos in Cappadocia: One of the Best We’ve Ever Had

We’ve had some incredible hotel breakfasts around the world, so when we say that breakfast at Argos belongs among our favorites, that’s a pretty big compliment. In fact, during our podcast conversation, we compared it to two of the best breakfast experiences we’ve had: the Grand Hyatt Muscat in Oman and the Park Hyatt Maldives.

Those are some seriously high standards, but Argos absolutely deserves to be in the conversation.

What made breakfast so memorable wasn’t necessarily the size of the buffet. It was the quality of the ingredients and the way Turkish cuisine combines flavors that we don’t typically associate with breakfast back home. There were fresh herbs, cheeses, vegetables, beautifully prepared salads, and all kinds of local specialties that made us want to keep trying something new.

Taryn isn’t the biggest breakfast enthusiast between the two of us, but even she was surprised by how much she enjoyed the salads. And that says a lot because she’s normally not someone who gets excited about eating salad, especially first thing in the morning. In Türkiye, though, the combination of fresh mint, pomegranate seeds, cheese, and other ingredients completely changed her perspective.

What’s the Thing with the Turkish Flavor?

One thing we noticed throughout our trip was how Turkish food manages to deliver so much flavor without necessarily relying on heat or heavy seasoning. Everything tasted fresh, and the combinations were often things we wouldn’t have thought to put together ourselves. Breakfast at Argos was a perfect introduction to that style of cooking, and it became something we genuinely looked forward to every morning.

Another major benefit was that breakfast was included through our American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts reservation. Considering how much we enjoyed it, this was one of those hotel benefits that actually added meaningful value to our stay.

We’ve experienced outstanding breakfasts at some of the world’s best hotels, and we’d comfortably put Argos alongside our favorites.

Dining at Argos in Cappadocia: Seki and Nahita Restaurants

Our view of Goreme from Nahita

Breakfast wasn’t the only meal that impressed us. One of the biggest surprises of our entire trip to Türkiye was just how much we loved the food, and the restaurants at Argos played a major role in that. The property has two main restaurants, Seki and Nahita, both of which were highlighted in the Michelin Guide during our visit.

We already knew Türkiye had a strong culinary reputation, but experiencing the food firsthand was something else entirely. The freshness of the ingredients, the combinations of herbs and spices, and the variety of dishes made this one of our favorite destinations for food. By the end of the trip, we were comparing our experience to places like Mexico City, Italy, and Greece, which are among our favorite food destinations.

Seki Restaurant: Incredible Food With an Even Better View

Seki is the property’s signature restaurant, offering a dining experience that combines international influences with the flavors and ingredients of Anatolia. The food is excellent, but the setting is what initially catches your attention. The restaurant overlooks Cappadocia’s dramatic valleys, and sitting outside around sunset creates an atmosphere that’s difficult to beat.

Enjoying dinner at Argos in Cappadocia with the region’s spectacular landscape in the background.

During our stay, we tried Seki’s tasting menu with wine pairings, and we enjoyed the experience so much that we returned to explore the regular menu as well. The dishes were beautifully prepared, and the staff did an excellent job helping us navigate the menu and discover combinations we might not have chosen on our own.

That’s actually something we started doing more frequently throughout Türkiye. Instead of automatically ordering something familiar, we’d ask the staff what they recommended and let them guide us. It turned out to be a great decision because the food was consistently excellent, and we discovered flavors and dishes that were completely new to us.

A beautifully prepared main course at Seki Restaurant, one of the dining highlights of our stay.

The wine pairings were another highlight, particularly because we were discovering Turkish wines for the first time. We hadn’t realized how strong the country’s wine industry was before visiting, and Seki gave us an excellent introduction.

Nahita Restaurant: Discovering the Flavors of Anatolia

While Seki offers a more internationally influenced dining experience, Nahita focuses on the culinary traditions of Anatolia. This was another restaurant we thoroughly enjoyed, especially because it gave us the opportunity to experience more of the ingredients and dishes that make Turkish cuisine so distinctive.

One of our favorite things about dining in Türkiye was the variety of appetizers and smaller dishes served before the main course. Fresh vegetables, yogurt-based dips, herbs, cheeses, and different preparations of meat created meals that were just as much about discovering new flavors as they were about eating.

A selection of traditional Turkish appetizers and mezze served during our stay at Argos.
Freshly prepared Turkish mezze featuring herbs, vegetables, yogurt-based dips, and traditional bread.

We found ourselves enjoying combinations that we probably wouldn’t have ordered back home, and that became one of the most memorable parts of the entire trip. Turkish cuisine has an incredible ability to take relatively simple ingredients and turn them into something special.

Between Seki and Nahita, we never felt the need to leave the property in search of a better dining experience. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t explore the restaurants around Uçhisar, because there are some great options nearby, but having two restaurants of this quality directly at the hotel was a major advantage.

Exploring the Underground Wine Cellar at Argos

One of the most unexpected highlights of our stay was the hotel’s underground wine cellar. We knew Argos had an impressive food and wine program, but we had no idea just how extensive its collection was until we took a tour of the property.

During the tour, we were told that the cellar held approximately 22,000 bottles of wine, with enough space to accommodate more than 30,000. Our guide also described it as one of the largest wine cellars in Europe, which gives you some idea of the scale of the collection.

Inside the underground wine cellar at Argos in Cappadocia, where thousands of bottles are stored within historic stone chambers.

The cellar itself is fascinating because it’s built into the property’s underground cave system. Instead of walking into a conventional temperature-controlled wine room, you’re exploring historic stone chambers lined with bottles. The atmosphere is completely different from anything we’d experienced before, and it adds another layer to the hotel’s connection with Cappadocia’s history.

We were also surprised by how much we enjoyed Turkish wine. It’s not something we encounter very often in the United States, so we arrived without much knowledge of the country’s wine production. After trying several local varieties, including wines connected to the region, we came away genuinely impressed.

The wines complemented the food beautifully, and learning more about the local wine culture made the experience even more interesting. We found ourselves wondering why Turkish wine isn’t more widely available back home because there were several bottles we would have happily purchased again.

Don’t Skip the Complimentary Property Tour

The wine cellar was part of a broader guided tour of Argos, which was offered around 6 PM daily during our stay. We explored different areas of the property, learned more about its history, visited the underground cellar, and had the opportunity to taste local wine.

We’d highly recommend making time for this experience. Argos has so much history and so many interesting architectural details that you could easily miss while simply walking between your room and the restaurants. The tour gave us a much better appreciation for the property and helped us understand what makes it so different from a conventional luxury hotel.

Schedules and inclusions may change, so it’s worth asking about the tour when you check in.

The Spa at Argos in Cappadocia: A Wellness Experience Inside the Caves

Another part of Argos that really impressed us was the spa. Like the rest of the property, the wellness facilities incorporate Cappadocia’s historic stone architecture, creating an atmosphere that feels completely different from a traditional hotel spa.

According to what we learned during our stay, the spa is carved into volcanic rock that’s approximately 2,000 years old. Inside, you’ll find an indoor cave pool, sauna, steam facilities, and traditional Turkish hammam rooms. The combination of natural stone, marble, and warm lighting makes the entire space feel intimate and relaxing.

We were able to use the general spa facilities without paying an additional fee, which was another nice benefit of staying at the property. Professional treatments and services cost extra, but access to the pools, sauna, steam room, and other shared wellness facilities was included during our visit.

Our DIY Turkish Hammam Experience

One of the more entertaining moments of our stay happened when we decided to try the hammam. Argos has both regular and couples’ hammam facilities, and during our visit, the couples’ room wasn’t reserved. The staff kindly allowed us to use it on our own, even though we hadn’t booked a professional treatment.

The only problem was that neither of us was entirely sure what we were supposed to do.

We spent the first few minutes trying to figure out how everything worked, where the water was supposed to go, and how to properly use the facilities. It probably wasn’t the most traditional hammam experience anyone has ever had, but we had a great time figuring it out together.

By the end, we were relaxed, our skin felt great, and we’d added another unique experience to our trip. The spa staff were wonderful throughout our visit, and we appreciated how welcoming they were.

For anyone staying at Argos, we’d definitely recommend setting aside some time to enjoy the spa. Cappadocia can involve long days of sightseeing, early mornings, and plenty of walking, so having somewhere like this to relax afterward is a major advantage.

The Outdoor Pool and Incredible Views

The beautiful outdoor swimming pool at Argos in Cappadocia, overlooking the surrounding landscape.

The hotel also has a beautiful outdoor pool surrounded by stone architecture and overlooking the valleys. It’s one of those pool areas where the view is just as much of an attraction as the swimming itself.

Between the outdoor pool, indoor cave pool, and spa facilities, Argos offers plenty of opportunities to relax without leaving the property. We loved having that balance because Cappadocia is a destination where it’s easy to fill every day with activities, but the hotel itself deserves some of your time.

How We Booked Argos in Cappadocia and Saved $900 With Amex

Now for one of our favorite parts of the stay: how we booked it. Argos is a luxury hotel, and the cash rates reflect that. During our visit, the standard cave room was running approximately $586 per night, which would have put our three-night stay at around $1,758 before any applicable taxes or fees.

Instead of paying that full amount, we used our American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts benefits to significantly reduce the cost.

We had eligible credits available across two American Express Business Platinum cards and one personal American Express Platinum card. By making three separate one-night reservations (before the change to 2-night reservations), we were able to apply a $300 credit to each booking, giving us $900 in total statement credits across our stay.

Here’s how the approximate numbers worked out:

Booking DetailAmount
Nightly room rate$586
Total for three nights$1,758
American Express credits applied$900
Approximate remaining room cost$858

Combining Three Reservations Into One Stay

One of the things people often ask about when using multiple hotel credits is whether separate reservations can be combined into one continuous stay. In our case, the process was surprisingly simple.

About one or two weeks before arriving, we emailed Argos with our confirmation numbers and explained that we’d made three separate reservations but wanted to stay in the same room for all three nights. The hotel was happy to accommodate us, and everything went smoothly once we arrived.

We didn’t have to change rooms between reservations, which made the experience feel like a normal three-night hotel stay rather than three individual bookings.

Can You Book Argos in Cappadocia With Points?

Argos is part of The Leading Hotels of the World and has also appeared in the Mr & Mrs Smith collection associated with Hyatt. Depending on the partnerships and redemption opportunities available when you’re booking, there may be ways to use points or other travel rewards toward a stay.

We didn’t go that route because our American Express credits offered excellent value for this particular trip. With $900 in credits and complimentary breakfast through Fine Hotels + Resorts, paying cash for the remaining balance made sense for us.

This is a good example of why we always recommend comparing different booking options rather than automatically assuming points are the best choice. Sometimes redeeming points is the clear winner, but other times, a hotel credit or travel benefit can provide even better value.

Getting Around Argos and Exploring Uçhisar

One thing worth knowing before booking Argos is that the property is built into a hillside, which means there are plenty of stairs, stone pathways, and inclines connecting different areas of the hotel.

We didn’t mind the walking, but it’s something to consider, particularly for travelers with mobility concerns or anyone planning to bring a stroller. The historic layout is part of the property’s charm, but it also means getting from your room to the restaurants, pool, or reception can involve more walking than at a conventional resort.

Fortunately, the hotel has buggy transportation available to help guests move around the property. We appreciated having that option, although we’d still recommend contacting the hotel in advance about any specific accessibility requirements.

Exploring Uçhisar Beyond the Hotel

One of the advantages of staying at Argos is that you’re also within walking distance of several places around Uçhisar. We eventually ventured out to explore the village and discovered some great little bars, shops, and places to enjoy drinks without paying hotel prices.

The walk into town wasn’t particularly long, but the streets can be steep, uneven, and dusty, so comfortable shoes are definitely recommended. Even our sneakers ended up covered in dust after exploring the area.

Cappadocia’s dramatic valleys and historic cave dwellings create an incredible backdrop for exploring the region.

One of the most interesting attractions nearby is Uçhisar Castle, a massive rock formation that’s been carved into over centuries. It’s only a short walk from the hotel, and the surrounding area offers some incredible viewpoints.

We loved having the option to explore the village on foot rather than needing transportation every time we wanted to leave the property. While Argos has excellent restaurants and amenities, it’s still worth getting outside and experiencing the local atmosphere.

Is Argos in Cappadocia a Good Hotel for Couples?

We think Argos is an excellent choice for couples, particularly for a honeymoon, anniversary, or romantic getaway. The setting is naturally beautiful, and the combination of cave accommodations, intimate restaurants, incredible views, and unique spa facilities creates an experience that feels special without needing to plan something elaborate every day.

Some of our favorite moments were simply enjoying dinner together while looking out over the valleys or wandering around the property as the sun went down. There’s something about Cappadocia’s landscape that makes even ordinary moments feel memorable.

For couples celebrating a special occasion, we’d seriously consider upgrading to one of the larger rooms or suites. Our standard cave room was perfectly fine for three nights, but a more spacious accommodation would make the experience even better, especially when you’re planning to spend more time relaxing at the hotel.

Is Argos in Cappadocia Family Friendly?

Although Argos feels particularly well suited to couples, we also saw families with children enjoying the property during our stay. The cave architecture, historic surroundings, and opportunities to explore could make this a fascinating place for kids, especially those who enjoy discovering unusual destinations.

That said, we’d be more selective about the room category when traveling as a family. Our standard room felt small for two adults with luggage, so we’d definitely want more space with children. The steep pathways and numerous stairs are also worth considering, particularly with younger kids.

Families with older children who enjoy exploring would probably appreciate the unique setting, but we’d recommend discussing room options and the property’s layout directly with the hotel before booking.

What We’d Do Differently Next Time

After spending three nights at Argos, there’s very little we’d change about the overall experience. The location, food, service, spa, and unique accommodations all made this one of the most memorable hotels of our trip.

The biggest change would be booking a larger room. We loved the cave concept, but the standard category simply didn’t provide as much space as we’d prefer. Given how much we enjoyed the property, we’d happily pay a little more for a more comfortable room on a future visit.

We’d also love to return to Cappadocia with a slightly more relaxed itinerary. This trip was packed with activities, including our incredible hot air balloon experience, exploring the valleys, taking photos, and discovering different parts of the region. We had an amazing time, but there was so much happening that we didn’t always have the opportunity to slow down.

Next time, we’d love to wake up early enough to watch the hot air balloons from the surrounding viewpoints, enjoy breakfast without rushing, and spend more time simply appreciating the hotel. Cappadocia is one of those destinations where you could easily return and have a completely different experience.
