Andaz Mexico City Condesa Review: The Best Walkable Hyatt Hotel in CDMX

Are you planning a trip to Mexico City and looking for the perfect hotel in a prime location? Look no further than the Andaz Mexico City, a Hyatt hotel in the heart of Condesa, one of the most walkable and vibrant neighborhoods in CDMX. This luxury boutique hotel offers an ideal mix of modern comfort, cultural charm, and excellent Hyatt points redemption value, and I feel it’s one of the best hotels in Condesa.

Why Stay at Andaz Mexico City Condesa?

Prime Location in Condesa

One of the best reasons to stay at Andaz Mexico City is its unbeatable location in Condesa. Known for its tree-lined streets, lush parks, coffee shops, and restaurants, Condesa is one of the best neighborhoods in Mexico City for tourists. Staying here means you can easily explore nearby areas like Roma Norte, Romasur, and El Centro, all without needing a car, including at night.

If you’re looking for a Mexico City hotel in a walkable neighborhood, this is it. From Parque México to some of the city’s top-rated restaurants, bars, and cafes, you’ll have everything at your doorstep.

A Hyatt Category 4 Hotel – Great for Points Redemption

For those in the Hyatt loyalty program, Andaz Mexico City is a Category 4 property, meaning you can book award nights for as little as 15,000 Hyatt points per night, or 18,000 points on peak nights. Even better, you could choose to use one of Hyatt’s free night certificates her for your stay. If you have Chase Ultimate Rewards points, you can transfer them to Hyatt at a 1:1 ratio, making this one of the best Hyatt points redemptions in Mexico City.

For our stay over New Year’s Eve, the cash price was nearly $3,000, but we used 90,000 Hyatt points, making it an excellent value. We also used our “Member of Honor” benefit to receive Globalist status for our stay (at the time we were only Explorist status), which entitled us to free breakfast every day. Because the hotel was 100% booked for New Years Eve, we did not receive a room upgrade.

What to Expect at Andaz Mexico City

Modern Design & Rooftop Views

The Andaz Mexico City Condesa offers a boutique luxury experience with stylish decor that blends modern aesthetics with Mexican culture. Some highlights of the hotel include:

  • Spacious, well-designed rooms with local artwork
  • Rooftop bar and pool with panoramic views of Mexico City
  • Pet-friendly amenities, including an indoor-outdoor area for dogs
  • Lush open-air courtyards

Cabuya Rooftop & The Disappointing New Year’s Eve Experience

The hotel’s rooftop bar and restaurant, named Cabuya, and the pool offer stunning skyline views, which made us excited for the New Year’s Eve party hosted there. Given the hotel’s luxurious reputation, we expected an unforgettable night. Instead, it turned out to be a complete letdown.

The event was poorly planned from start to finish. Despite the premium pricing, the cocktails were underwhelming, with basic, uninspired drinks and extremely slow service. The DJ was abysmal, failing to create any atmosphere or even build up anticipation for the countdown. In fact, there was no countdown at all! Midnight arrived with no announcement, no music build-up, and no moment to properly celebrate the New Year. Guests were left confused and looking around, unsure if 2024 had even begun. The lack of organization and energy was shocking for what was marketed as a high-end New Year’s Eve event.

To make matters worse, the food was mediocre at best, far from the standard you would expect from a property like this. Given that we had some of the best meals of our trip just down the street in Condesa, the subpar catering was another major disappointment. For the price they charged, this event felt like a complete ripoff.

The only redeeming factor? The incredible city skyline views . But unless you were just there for the view, this New Year’s Eve party was a massive waste of money and time.

Dining at Andaz vs. Exploring Condesa

If you’re a Hyatt Globalist member, you get free breakfast at the hotel, which is a great perk. However, Condesa is home to some of the best breakfast and brunch spots in Mexico City. We opted to mix things up, enjoying the hotel breakfast a few times but also exploring local cafes known for their fresh cappuccinos, fruit, and authentic Mexican breakfast dishes.

Transportation: Walk or Uber

Since Condesa is one of the most walkable areas in Mexico City, we walked almost everywhere. However, for longer trips, Uber rides were incredibly affordable, ranging from $3 to $10.

For reference, our taxi from the Santa Lucia Airport to Andaz was $50, while our Uber from the hotel to the Mexico City International Airport cost just $10.

Is Andaz Mexico City Worth It?

Absolutely! Andaz Mexico City in Condesa offers a perfect mix of luxury, location, and Hyatt points value, and their service and entire team were amazing. Whether you’re a first-time visitor to Mexico City or a seasoned traveler, this hotel is one of the best places to stay in Mexico City for its walkability, comfort, and incredible rooftop views. However, we highly advise skipping their New Year’s Eve event and celebrating elsewhere.

Final Thoughts

If you’re looking for where to stay in Mexico City, especially in a safe, walkable neighborhood, Andaz Mexico City Condesa should be at the top of your list.

With its Hyatt points redemption value, modern design, and excellent location, it’s a fantastic choice for both luxury travelers and budget-conscious points enthusiasts.

Would we stay here again? Absolutely. But we’d never spend a dime on their New Year’s Eve event again.
