After a week in Belgium built around Tomorrowland, my wife Taryn and I began the trip home with a short Brussels Airlines flight to Munich. The final and most memorable leg was Lufthansa Flight LH414 from Munich to Washington Dulles aboard the Airbus A380.

The Munich lounge was comfortable and practical rather than extravagant. There was enough food and drink to settle in between flights, and it gave us a quiet place to recharge before the long trip home. The lounge was nothing crazy, but it did exactly what we needed after several busy days in Belgium.
In Munich, we did not enter on the main deck and climb the stairs inside the aircraft. The jet bridge delivered us directly to the upper deck. Walking straight into the top level of an A380 made the boarding experience feel much more exclusive and also kept us away from most of the traffic boarding the much larger economy cabin below.

There is still space for the basics, along with in-seat power and USB charging, but this is another part of the cabin that shows its age. Our plugs never worked the entire flight: either they would fall out, or if we got them to stay they would charge for a second or two then stop. It was quite frustrating.
The entertainment screen and interface were functional rather than cutting-edge. There was enough content for a transatlantic flight, and the moving map was especially fun on an aircraft as iconic as the A380. Wi-Fi availability and pricing can vary by aircraft and flight, so I would not plan an important work session around it without checking onboard. On our flight the Wi-Fi did not work.

The biggest limitations are the narrow foot area, the open cabin and the possibility of being disturbed if you are in an aisle seat and your window-seat companion needs to get out. Taryn was able to get a solid 4hrs of sleep, whereas I myself struggled. I felt hot the entire time and just couldn’t get comfortable. Also to note, I’m 5’8″ and had plenty of leg room at all times. I think even someone over 6′ would be very comfortable.
