Marina Bay Sands Review: What $1000 a Night Gets You in Singapore’s Most Iconic Hotel

Marina Bay Sands Review: What $1000 a Night Gets You in Singapore’s Most Iconic Hotel

If you’re dreaming of a Singapore vacation that checks off every box for luxury, Marina Bay Sands sits at the top of almost every travel list. Known for its boat-shaped rooftop, sky-high infinity pool, and world-class dining, this hotel isn’t just a place to sleep—it’s a destination. But what do you actually get for a $1000+ per night stay? Here’s my detailed Marina Bay Sands Review based on our firsthand experience.

Arrival and First Impressions

From the moment we arrived, the scale and drama of Marina Bay Sands sets a new standard. The boat-shaped design resting across three massive towers dominates Singapore’s skyline and houses the legendary rooftop infinity pool seen all over Instagram.

Walking into the grand lobby, you’re greeted by polished marble floors, soaring ceilings, and a buzz that tells you everyone is there for something special. Check-in was a breeze. Despite arriving before standard check-in time, we received temporary key cards giving us immediate access to the rooftop pool, spa, and other exclusive facilities.

While waiting for our room, we had lunch at Spago, a rooftop restaurant led by Wolfgang Puck. Spago makes poolside dining feel upscale yet relaxed. We were able to dine in our swimwear, sipping cocktails and sampling California cuisine with an Asian twist while watching the sky shift above Singapore.

First Impressions Highlights:

  • Iconic boat-shaped rooftop with infinite views
  • Super-smooth, guest-focused check-in
  • Perks like instant pool and spa access before room is ready
  • Casual yet high-end first meal at Spago, right by the pool

Room Experience & In-Room Amenities

Our room looked out over Gardens by the Bay, and I’d recommend this view if you love greenery and futuristic landscapes. Floor-to-ceiling windows, modern lighting, and extra space gave us a sense of luxury as soon as we walked through the door.

Room Highlights
  • Panoramic windows with either Gardens or Marina views
  • Expansive bathroom with walk-in shower
  • Automated Toto toilet: the lid pops up when you open the door—these high-tech toilets are a comfort upgrade you grow to love in Asia
  • Touches of modern design throughout the space

Unique In-Room Amenities

One of the most impressive features was the minibar. It included a range of teas, ready-to-pour cocktails complete with garnishes, soups and ramen, all artfully displayed in a beautifully crafted cabinet. Even the act of getting ice became a memorable moment—a staff member insisted I return to my room and personally delivered a full ice bucket on a tray, almost like table service. This level of personal attention truly raises the bar.

The guest services team stood out for their warmth and attentiveness, helping with last-minute dining reservations and even offering advice on planning out our days.

Being only 20 minutes from Changi Airport made arrivals and departures simple, with taxis and ride-share options always available. If you’re coming from the airport, you’ll appreciate how close and connected this hotel is to everything.

Getting Around: Location & Connectivity

Where Marina Bay Sands excels is its direct connection to the Bayfront MRT station. The main entrance to the station sits within the attached luxury shopping mall, and there’s another access point right by Gardens by the Bay.

Here’s how easy it was to explore Singapore:

  1. Two major subway lines run through Bayfront MRT: the Circle Line and Downtown Line. Both provide fast access to places like Little India, Chinatown, and the airport.
  2. You can use your phone with Apple Wallet or a credit card for contactless entries and exits—no need to fuss with paper tickets.
  3. The subway is clean, efficient, and intuitive for first-timers.

Best way to get around in Singapore: Use the MRT system from Marina Bay Sands for fast, affordable, and stress-free travel.

Tip: If you plan to make the most of your stay, the public transit options

The Rooftop Infinity Pool Experience

The crown jewel, for many, is the rooftop infinity pool on the 57th floor. Only hotel guests are allowed access—key card scanning keeps the crowds in check and guarantees a spot for everyone staying there.

Pool Features

  • Adults-only and family-friendly zones, plus a shallow area for kids
  • Complimentary lounge chairs, sunscreen, and water
  • Full poolside food and cocktail service (try getting a sangria pitcher to enjoy with friends)
  • Spectacular skyline and Marina Bay views
  • Operating hours from 6 a.m. to midnight mean you can swim at sunrise, after midnight cocktails, or anytime in between

What stands out isn’t just the view, but the overall vibe. You feel like you’re floating above Singapore, and with strict guest-only policies, the pool never felt too packed.

Professional photographers roam the pool area and will take high-quality photos for you—no need to risk your phone near the water. Afterward, access your shots via a QR code.

If there’s a storm or lightning, staff will close the pool and observation deck for safety. During a rain delay, we simply retreated to Spago for snacks—having great food right there makes these little hiccups hassle-free.

Tips for Pool Visitors:

  • Bring your key card—no access to towels or chairs without it
  • Early morning or late night are the quietest pool times
  • If you’re just visiting the hotel (not staying), you can eat at Spago but cannot enter the pool
  • Take advantage of the on-site photographer for that iconic shot

Food & Dining Highlights at Marina Bay Sands

Overview of Dining Choices

Dining at Marina Bay Sands is a highlight in itself. From food courts to Michelin-level restaurants, you’re spoiled for choice. Over a dozen celebrity chef restaurants mix with more casual options, creating something for every craving and budget.

Spago Rooftop Restaurant

Located beside the pool, Spago serves up California-inspired dishes laced with Asian influences. Think gourmet burgers, creative appetizers, and fresh cocktails, all complemented by unbeatable views of the Gardens by the Bay and the ships in the harbor.

Koma Japanese Restaurant

Venture into the attached mall to find Koma. This restaurant takes you through a dramatic tunnel of orange Torii gates into a dining area crowned by a giant Japanese bell and a reflecting pool centerpiece. The sushi is fresh, and specialties like Wagyu beef sashimi drizzled with truffle oil leave a mark. For those who love Japanese cuisine, Koma is a must.

Mott 32 Chinese Restaurant

Also inside the mall is Mott 32, famed for its Cantonese and Sichuan food. Originating from Hong Kong, it delivers elevated takes on classics—crispy duck and delicate dim sum were highlights for us. The entire meal set a new standard for Chinese dining.

Reservation Advice

Most restaurants book up quickly, especially on weekends. If you’re craving a particular spot, book your reservation a few weeks ahead. We managed some last-minute reservations thanks to staying during shoulder season and using help from the hotel team, but this is the exception, not the rule.

It’s smart to plan your dining—don’t leave a special meal to chance!

Marquee Nightclub

If nightlife is part of your trip, Marquee is a multi-story nightclub inside the mall featuring a full-size Ferris wheel and a three-story slide. We didn’t make it this time, but heard rave reviews from others.

Things to do Around the Resort: Gardens, Shows & Shopping

Gardens by the Bay Access

One of the biggest perks: direct access from the hotel via a pedestrian bridge near Tower 1. The outdoor gardens and Supertree Grove are free to enter. For deeper exploring, grab tickets for the Flower Dome, Cloud Forest, or the OCBC Skyway elevated walkway.

  • Garden Rhapsody Light Show: The real spectacle happens at night as the Supertrees come alive with light and music. Shows run daily at 7:45 and 8:45 p.m. for 15 minutes. Arrive early—people lay on the ground for a better view to fully soak in the experience.

Spectra Light & Water Show

Singapore city water and light show at night
Spectra Water & Light Show

Marina Bay Sands stages its own nightly light and water show, Spectra, outside at the Bayside Event Plaza. Showtimes: 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., with an extra 10 p.m. show on Friday and Saturday. The best viewing spot is near the Louis Vuitton Island Store, as tipped off by reception. The show synchronizes building lights with music and water, creating a citywide performance.

Tip: You can’t catch the Garden Rhapsody 8:45 p.m. show and the 9:00 p.m. Spectra show on the same night—they’re too far apart. Plan accordingly!

Marina Bay Sands Shopping Mall

Connected directly to the hotel, this mall matches the rest of the resort’s luxury. Find flagship stores from Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci, Dior, Hermès, and more. Even if window shopping is more your speed, the air conditioning is a welcome break from Singapore’s heat.

One cool touch: an indoor canal lets you ride a Venetian-style sampan boat around a stunning waterfall feature called the Rainoculus. While we didn’t take a ride, we saw plenty of people enjoying this unique indoor experience.

For shoppers looking to maximize rewards, joining the free Sands Lifestyle membership lets you earn credits off your resort bill. We earned enough points through shopping and dining to offset $50-$100 at checkout.

ArtScience Museum

Impossible to miss, this lotus-shaped building next to the bay blends art, science, culture, and technology in its ever-changing lineup of exhibits. “Future World,” the permanent digital interactive exhibition, is especially good for families, while pop-ups have included everything from Marvel superheroes to planetary science installations. Tickets are recommended in advance.

The Casino

The casino at Marina Bay Sands is one of the largest standalone properties in the world, with 500 gaming tables and over 1,600 slot machines. Tourists enter free (bring your passport), while locals pay a hefty government levy to enter. We only took a peek inside, but for gaming fans, it’s a destination in itself.

Final Thoughts: Is Marina Bay Sands Worth It?

Staying at Marina Bay Sands isn’t a typical hotel experience—it’s the Singapore landmark for luxury travelers. Rooms start around $1000 per night and can go much higher, making this a real splurge for special occasions or bucket list trips.

Pros

  • Unbeatable rooftop infinity pool with panoramic city views
  • Direct access to the city’s MRT system and key attractions
  • Integrated resort with food, shopping, shows, gardens, and a casino all on-site
  • Outstanding guest service and staff attention

Cons

  • High per-night cost, especially compared to other five-star hotels in Singapore
  • Lacks Personalized Boutique Feel: With over 2,500 rooms and a resort-like scale, Marina Bay Sands can feel impersonal, even though they have outstanding service
  • Crowds and Long Waits for Pool Access: The rooftop infinity pool is stunning—but it’s also one of the most photographed pools in the world. Even as a guest, expect crowds and limited space, especially during sunset hours
  • Check-In lines can be long
  • Limited Flexibility on Late Check-Outs or Early Check-Ins
  • Food and Drink Prices Are Extremely High

For special occasions, milestone trips, or if you simply want to say you’ve stayed “on the boat,” this place won’t disappoint. If the budget doesn’t stretch that far, consider visiting for a meal, a drink, or the public observation deck. Some travelers even argue you get the best photos with the hotel in your view, not from inside it!

Our verdict: We loved the wow factor and convenience. Would we stay again? For another special trip, maybe. In the future, we will likely switch things up and try one of Singapore’s other luxury hotels, especially those available on points and miles. But even if we don’t stay a second time, we’d absolutely come back for the world-class dining or another incredible rooftop meal.

Marina Bay Sands delivers on its promise of iconic views, top-notch service, and endless amenities. For those lucky enough to stay here, it’s an experience you won’t forget.
